Guided Fly Fishing – Isle of Rum

A golden opportunity to fish on the majestic isle of Rum

This full day trip with Minch Adventures takes visitors to the isle of Rum one of the Hebrides island gems

Our guided fishing and 4X4 accessibility takes you into the heart of the island where the spectacular scenery, views and wildlife are like no other.

Experience some of the best trout fishing that the Scottish highlands has to offer. Let us take you on a remarkable journey to an island gem on the sea of the Hebrides. A private charter vessel will take you to the Isle of Rum and once disembarked on its shores you will be taken on a 50 minute 4×4 journey through the island’s nature reserve, where guests will marvel at the scenery and wildlife on this  remote island.

We have chosen the best of the lochs to fish and invested two years of our time getting to understand them before we introduced our visitors to them.  Loch Dornabac which is a short walk from the vehicle is popular for those with restricted fitness levels thus offering good opportunities to catch quality wild brown trout. For those who don’t mind a 40 minute hike, we have a hidden gem,  a loch with crystal clear water similar to lochs found in Sutherland. The island’s volcanic soil gives rise to a rich aquatic life and the abundance of trout in this loch. Wild trout are averaging 12oz with fish regularly in the 1.5lb range and larger specimens up to 3lb plus also possible.

Dry fly methods work well, offering a lot of sport, while traditional Scottish wet fly tactics are good. Fishing deep with a big lure inched along can tempt out the larger, opportunistic trout.  Quality fishing tackle can be supplied on request.  I have been trout fishing since the early 80’s and use a diverse range of tactics and have an understanding of entomology, all at your disposal. Our flies are custom made by a professional fly tyer.

Should you wish to enhance an already fantastic experience, we offer float tubing as an opportunity to access those untouched areas on the water.

At the end of each trip, we like to finish the day down at Kinloch Harbour. Here you can enjoy some Scottish ales while overlooking the purling sea and while we enjoy our refreshments we take the opportunity to mingle with the locals and get a real feel for life on the island.

We can organise packed lunch and accommodation at our B&B Caberfeidh House in the lovely hamlet of Morar overlooking the Silversand beach with the Isle of Rum as your backdrop.
