Our 4X4 accessibility takes you into the heart of the island where the spectacular surroundings and wildlife are like no other.
Experience some of the most amazing trout fishing that the Scottish west coast has to offer, let us take you on a remarkable journey to an island gem on the sea of the Hebrides, the island is steeped in history dating back some 8000 years! The fishing is outstanding and the surrounding’s impressive. A private charter vessel will take you across the sound of Sleat to the Isle of Rum, this was a forbidden island for over 100 years…. Purchased as a fishing and hunting retreat by one of the wealthiest families in the world and now owned by NatureScot who have granted us access across the nature reserve to fish on the islands lochs. Once disembarked on its shores you will be taken on a one hour 4×4 trip through the island’s nature reserve, as part of a guided tour where guests will marvel at the wildlife and desolate grandeur of the landscape.
We have chosen the best of the lochs to fish; Loch Dornabac which is a short walk from the vehicle is popular for those with restricted fitness levels thus offering good opportunities to catch quality wild brown trout. For those who don’t mind a small hike, we have a hidden gem to fish, the volcanic soil on the island which surrounds the loch gives rise to a rich aquatic life and helps support the great abundance of trout in this area. The wild trout are averaging 12oz with fish regularly in the 1.5lb range and larger specimens up to 3lb plus also possible.
Dry fly methods work well, offering a lot of sport, while traditional Scottish wet fly tactics are good. Fishing deep with a big lure inched along can tempt out the larger, opportunistic trout. Quality fishing tackle can be supplied on request, brands such as Sage, Vision & Rio fly lines to name but a few. Billy will personally be your guide, he is an avid fly fisherman and uses a diverse range of fly fishing tactics to lure trout to the line. He has an understanding of entomology and been fishing around the highlands for many years. Should you wish to enhance an already fantastic experience, we offer float tubing as an opportunity to access those untouched areas on the water.
At the end of each trip, we like to finish the day down at Kinloch Harbour. Here you can enjoy some Scottish ales whilst overlooking the sea and take the opportunity to mingle with the locals and get a real feel for life on the island.
This package can include accommodation at our B&B Caberfeidh House Guided multi day fishing experiences can be arranged around the local area also which include Kayak fly-fishing on the deepest loch in Brittan “Loch Morar” which is in our opinion the most aesthetic and interesting loch to fish in the highlands! Salmon fishing available on request….
